Left side view (top) and dorsal view of Cytherissa lacustris, length 0.9 mm. This species is found in Europe, Asia and North America, but males are only known from two Siberian lakes, Baikal and Hovsogul. In Lake Biwa it is found below 25 m depth, often with carapaces heavily encrusted with a thick, brown layer (Click on the image to view the next one in the series.)
