Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) image of the ventral view (underside) of a female Darwinula stevensoni , with the head orientated towards the top. The carapace is open, revealing the appendages inside. This is one of the few truly cosmopolitan species of freshwater ostracods, found in most regions of the world.
