Chikubu Island, Lake Biwa. Click on the image for next one in the series.

Chikubu Island, in the north part of Lake Biwa. The island is made of granite, reaches 197 m above sea level (108 m above the surface of the lake), and covers an area of 0.15 square km. A cormorant colony has resulted in damage to trees on the south-western end of the island (in the foreground). (Photograph taken from a helicopter, 12th May 2010.)
