Southern end of Lake Biwa, viewed from Yabase Island. The bridge in the foreground is one of three that link Yabase Island to the mainland. This one is about 230 m long. The bridge in the background is the Ohmi Ohashi toll bridge, which spans the southern end of the lake. It is 1,290 m long and the road surface reaches a maximum height of 11.7 m above the water. It was built in 1974 and expanded to four lanes in 1995. It currently carries an average of 33,000 vehicles a day. (Photograph taken 21st May 2007.)
