  Career
Graduated from Kyoto University's Science Department in botany, and Kyoto University's Department of Literature in archaeology, and then worked at Okayama University's Science department as a tutor, and assistant professor. Moved to the National Museum of Japanese History and worked as a professor and vice director. In April 2010 became the Lake Biwa Museum's Director General.

   Specialty
Folklore related to the relationships between people and nature, in particular the agricultural and fishing mountain villages of Japan, Ethiopia and China.
