Notice concerning Use of Data

Because the above-mentioned meteorological records come from an observatory registered with the Japan Meteorological Agency, the law of meteorological businesses requires no restriction on their use.
You may use them for various purposes, e.g. education, academic research and marine sports, but we bear no responsibility for the consequence of their utilization.
We require you to give credit to the Lake Biwa Museum in any presentation making use of these data. We also require you to contact us at meteo@lbm.go.jp before you publish your results. Only certain peculiar circumstances are likely to result in refusal.

You can view the same wind data that are displayed in the exhibition of the Lake Biwa Museum.
(Instructions are mainly written in Japanese.)

Animated Display of "Biwako-Das" Wind Data

You can view the wind records observed at 10 "Biwako-Das" observatories and at the Lake Biwa Museum. The observatories established a system of observation, data exchange, and exhibition as a part of the "Biwako-Das" project. The management of the system is entrusted to the Society of Environment Education around the Lake Biwa Region. The animated display system was developed by members of the society using Java programming language.
"Biwako-Das" is a project promoted by the Society of Environment Education around the Lake Biwa Region. The society surveys meteorology in the region both with the geophysical and folklore methods, and also the application of the meteorology in a social context, e.g., school education and leisure activities. Project members include people from various disciplines, such as university researchers, school teachers, staff of a waterfowl center, and the owner of a sailing school. Some scientists at the Lake Biwa Museum is also a member, and a part of the project constitutes a cooperative research project supported by the museum.

Software Requirement

The animated display requires "Java Applet" environment for execution. You can activate Java Applet by the default setting of Netscape Navigator Ver.3 or later or Internet Explorer Ver.3 or later. However, some version of Netscape Navigator Ver.3 (3.01 for Macintosh, etc.) cannot display the animation correctly.

Notice concerning Use of Data

Because the "Biwako-Das" observatories are not registered with the Japan Meteorological Agency, the Japanese law on meteorological business restricts its usage to the educational and research spheres. Especially, use for the purpose of disaster warning or prevention is strongly prehibited.
We publicly permit the use of "Biwako-Das" data and our "Java Applet" only for the display provided by the pages linked from this page. If you want to use them for any other purposes, please contact the Society of Environment Education around the Lake Biwa Region through the responsible member at the Lake Biwa Museum, at meteo@lbm.go.jp.
